This drawing was made as part of a series responding to the biblical story of the passion. They developed to become an investigation into the nature of decision making - how we handle choice. I was drawn to the various characters in the story. Their personal inner struggles over difficult choices. As a development of my interest in the nature of 'the self' I wanted to focus on these experiences, the battles of the will and conscience that we can all identify with.

The titles of the drawings are all passages taken from the bible. 'I do what I don't want to do' and 'I don't do what I want to do' are words of St Paul. They seem to sum up a pervasive sence of continually falling short of the potential for which we were created. The other title however, 'Not my will but yours' are the words of Jesus praying just before he was arrested.
